Air Adventure
FighterWing
This morning I reported to Ellington Field Air National Guard, the 147th Fighter Wing, at 0600 for an exciting adventure. They call it a "Boss Lift." We have a member at Gloria Dei who works for the ESGR and helps organize these events which gives employers a chance to see what the Reserved Armed Forces are all about. I joined about a dozen or so others for a tour of the facilities, static displays of aircraft, and most excitingly a 2 hour flight in a KC-135 tanker to witness the refueling of F-16 fighters. Seeing those fighters "floating" off the wings of that tanker jet was truely a sight to behold. It took my breath away when I saw the first one come right up to the wing. Really awesome. It was also great to talk with the men and women of the reserve; it's amazes me to think these people hold down other jobs, and that their military service is something they do "extra." Some of them have been to Iraq and some are heading there soon. God bless our 147th!
